La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou 2022 released en Primeur 

  • La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou 2022 has been released at £432 per 12×75.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou 2022 has been released at €36 per bottle ex-négociant, up 11.1% on 2021 release (€32.40 per bottle).  

It is being offered by the international trade for £432 per 12×75, up 10.8% on the 2021’s opening price (£390 per 12×75).  

At this price, the 2020 and 2019 vintages look better value in relation to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.  

Critics’ scores  

Neal Martin (Vinous) scored the wine 93-95 points and said the wine is ‘excellent, but be warned that the oak will require several years to assimilate fully’. Antonio Galloni (Vinous), awarded it a barrel range of 92-94 points. In his tasting note, he said it was ‘super-expressive’ and added that it is ‘certainly impressive’.  

James Suckling scored the wine a barrel range of 94-95 points. He noted that it was ‘a chewy and polished red with blackberry and blueberry character’.  

Jeb Dunnuck gave it 93-95 points and said ‘if there was a ranking for the top second wines in Bordeaux, this would be in the top handful of releases’.  

Fair Value analysis  

There is no significant correlation between La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou and Neal Martin scores – the chosen critic for Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value’ methodology

Buyers looking for value will want to consider the 94-point 2019 vintage, which is available at a 29.4% discount to today’s release. Neal Martin (Vinous) noted that it is ‘quite Pauillac in style’ and ‘impressively persistent’.   

The 93-point 2020 vintage also looks attractive, available at a discount of 24.1% to today’s release.
