As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Clos Fourtet 2022 has been released at €94 per bottle ex-négociant, up 20.5% on the 2021 release (€78 per bottle).

It is being offered by the international trade for £1,128 per 12×75, up 20.6% on the 2021’s opening price (£935 per 12×75).

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel range of 95-97 points, highlighting the ‘sophisticated and harmonious finish’. He noted the ‘prudent approach’ to the use of new oak, lauding the winemaking team for overseeing a ‘sublime Saint-Émilion’.

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) gave it a range of 94-96 points. He deemed it ‘another terrific wine’, describing the ‘velvety and seamless’ mouthfeel alongside a ‘deep and complete’ aromatic profile.

James Suckling scored it a slightly higher 97-98 points, calling the wine ‘structured, layered and really long’.

Fair Value analysis

There is no significant correlation between Clos Fourtet Market Prices and Neal Martin scores – the chosen critic for Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value’ methodology.

According to the chart above, several back vintages are available at a discount to today’s release. The 2015 was awarded 97 points by Neal Martin (Vinous), making it the highest scoring vintage of the last decade. It is available at a discount of 20.2% to today’s release.

 The 2018 and 2020 hold a score of 95 points from Neal Martin and are available at a discount of 16.1% and 17.6% respectively to today’s release.
