Clos du Marquis 2022 released en Primeur 

  • Clos du Marquis 2022 has been released for £726 per 12×75.  
  • ‘Very perfumed and high-toned on the nose’ said Neal Martin who rated it 92-94 points. 
  • Buyers looking for value have several opportunities in back vintages.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Clos du Marquis 2022 has been released at €60 per bottle ex-négociant, up 42.9% on the 2021 release (€42 per bottle).   

It is being offered by the international trade for £726 per 12×75, up 44.1% on the 2021’s opening price (£504 per 12×75).  

At this price, the new release is the most expensive vintage of the last decade. As such, buyers looking for value have plenty of options among back vintages. See more pricing analysis below.  

Critics’ scores  

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel range of 92-94 points, praising the ‘linear and tensile’ journey of flavour from first taste through the finish. In his words: ‘Excellent’.  

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) gave it a score of 93-95+ points. Jean-Marc Quarin scored the wine 95 points, commenting on its ‘intense, fine, fruity, pure, noble nose.’  

James Suckling called it ‘structured and fluffy with a blanket of fine tannins’ and scored it 95-96 points.  

Fair Value analysis

According to the chart above, there are several back vintages available at a discount to today’s release. Buyers looking for value may want to consider the 2016 vintage, which has a score of 94 from Neal Martin (Vinous) and is available at a discount of 31.1% to the 2022.   

The lower-scoring 2020, 2018 and 2014 vintages also look attractive, available at a discount of 47.7%, 37.3% and 38.0% respectively to today’s release price.
