  • Château La Conseillante 2022 has been released for £2,652 per 12×75.
  • Neal Martin scored the wine 97-99 points and called it ‘one of the most intellectual La Conseillante wines in recent years’.
  • Buyers looking for value might want to consider the 2018, 2020 and 2021 vintages.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château La Conseillante 2022 has been released at €222 per bottle ex-négociant, up 42.3% on the 2021 release (€156 per bottle).

It is being offered by the international trade for £2,652 per 12×75, up 40.8% on the 2021’s opening price (£1,884 per 12×75).

Today’s release offers relative value compared to others on the market. Buyers looking for other options in back vintages have plenty of options to consider. See more pricing analysis below.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) gave the wine a barrel score of 97-99 points. He mentions in his tasting note that ‘Marielle Cazaux has crafted one of the most intellectual La Conseillante wines in recent years’.

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) awarded the wine a barrel range of 97-100 points. He said that ‘the 2022 La Conseillante is a remarkable wine that has the potential to emerge as one of the wines of the vintage’. He went on to say ‘congratulations to winemaker Marielle Cazaux, consulting oenologist Thomas Duclos, the Nicolas family led by Jean-Valmy, and all the team at La Conseillante who have firmly established this estate at the very top of Pomerol’s qualitative hierarchy in recent vintages’.

James Suckling agreed that ‘this is sensational’ and commented on its ‘silky, silky, silky. Creamy texture’. He awarded it 98-99 points.

Fair Value analysis

There is no significant correlation between Conseillante Market Prices and Neal Martin scores, the chosen critic for Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value’ methodology.

As the chart above shows, today’s release offers relative value, and buyers may want to seize the opportunity to acquire what could be the highest-scoring Conseillante of the past decade.

However, there are plenty of options to consider among back vintages, too. The 2020 and 2018 vintages were both scored 97 points by Neal Martin and are available at a discount of 29.9% compared to today’s release.

The 2021 vintage was scored a barrel range of 95-97 points and is available below its release price, at a Market Price of £1,814 per 12×75.
