As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Guiraud 2022 has been released at €38.50 per bottle ex-négociant. It is being offered by the international trade with an RRP of €46.5 per bottle, which corresponds to roughly £485 per 12×75.
Due to difficult weather conditions, no wine was produced by the estate for the 2018 and 2021 vintages.
The new release comes at a significantly higher price than prior releases. As such, buyers might want to consider previous vintages which represent better value. See more pricing analysis below.
Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) has not yet released his 2022 scores, but James Suckling gave the wine a barrel range of 94-95 points. In his tasting note, he said it was ‘a refined and pretty Sauternes’ with an ‘intense finish at the end’.
Fair Value analysis
Today’s release is coming to market at a premium to others already available. Buyers looking for opportunities among back vintages may want to consider the 2016 vintage, for example.
With several years of bottle age and 95 points from Neal Martin (Vinous), the wine is available at a 38% discount to today’s release.
The 93-point 2012, 2014 and 2015 vintages also look attractive.
