Renewed demand for First Growths (particularly lower priced vintages of Margaux and Mouton) saw the Liv-ex indices end 2012  in positive fashion. The Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 finished the year on 260.78, a monthly increase of 1.3% and a six-month high for the index. The Liv-ex Fine Wine Investables was up 1.3% and the Liv-ex Bordeaux 500 up 1.4%. The strongest performing index was the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 (+1.8%), which broke through the 300 barrier to end the month on 302.22, its highest level since 7th July.

The results for the full year, however, are less positive. As the table below outlines, the key Liv-ex indices fell significantly in 2012 (although all of this decline took place in the first half of the year). The Bordeaux 500 was the top performer, posting a decline of just over 5%.
