Liv-ex Claret Chip Index loses ground

After a brief resurgence, the Liv-ex Claret Chip Index retreated last week, moving down 2.1 points to finish Friday at 442.6 (-0.5 per cent). Once again, there were small price shifts in both directions, but little purposeful movement.

Of the few wines that did amble upwards, Margaux 1998 posted the largest increase, rising in value by 3.6 per cent week on week to £4,685 per 12x75cl case. Latour 2002 and 2003 also edged higher, benefiting, perhaps, from increased volumes of trade. The week's top faller was Haut Brion 1998 (-4.2 per cent).

The graph below shows the index's progress since May 2010. As you can see, the benchmark ascended rapidly last year and has slowed down considerably in recent months.
