Château Chasse-Spleen 2023 released En Primeur 

  • Château Chasse-Spleen has been released for £250.80 per 12×75. 
  • Neal Martin awarded the wine a barrel range of 91-93 points, calling it ‘stylish’ and ‘old-school’. 
  • The 2022 looks to offer good value to buyers.  

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign Château Chasse-Spleen 2023 has been released at €19.20 per bottle ex-négociant, a decrease of 20% on the 2022 release (€24).  

It is being offered by the international trade with a recommended retail price of £250.80 per 12×75, a decrease of 14.3% on the 2022’s opening price (£292.80 a case).

Critical Response 

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel range of 91-93 points, deeming it a ‘stylish if almost ‘old-school’ Chasse-Spleen that should develop well in bottle’.  

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) scored it at a range of 89-91 points, calling it a ‘very pretty, aromatic Moulis’ full of ‘crushed flowers’ and ‘sweet red-toned fruit’.  

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) also scored the wine 89-91 points, calling it a ‘strong effort’ full of ‘minty cassis, dark berries and pencil shavings’.

Pricing Analysis 

Buyers interested in value opportunities might consider the 2022, rated 93 points by Neal Martin and available at a discount of 2.0% to today’s release.  

The 2018 has a comparable Market Price to today’s release (£246) but was rated 88 points. As such, the 2023 may offer relative value in comparison.
