About the index

The Liv-ex Claret Chip Index is constructed of top-rated Bordeaux First Growths only. The index is price weighted and components are chosen according to the rules below. Component wines are valued using the Liv-ex Mid Price.

It is calculated weekly, at 5pm each Friday, as well as on the last day of each month. The new index level is published here each Monday.

How the Index is calculated

The qualifying criteria for the index are:

Bordeaux Left Bank First Growths only
An in-bottle score of 95 or above from Robert Parker. (Most recent score on erobertparker.com only).
Must be physically available (no en primeur)
No more than 15 years old (calculated from date of vintage)

Component prices are calculated weekly using the Liv-ex Mid Price. The Mid Price is calculated by finding the mid point between the current highest bid price and lowest offer price on the Liv-ex trading platform. Each price is then verified by our valuation committee to ensure that the value is robust after taking into account all data at its disposal.

The index components are reviewed according to the qualifying criteria every six months in December and June.
