As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Domaine de Chevalier Rouge 2022 has been released at €55.20 per bottle ex-négociant, up 18.0% on the 2021 release (€46.80).

It is being offered by the international trade for £680 per 12×75, a 20.6% increase on the 2021’s opening price (£564 a case).

The 2022 vintage will be released with a unique label to celebrate its 40th vintage under owner Olivier Bernard. The label will be signed by him and illustrated with the work of Chinese artist Xu Bei Hong.

At this price, the 2019 and 2020 vintages look better value in relation to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) scored the wine 95-97 points. He said ‘the arching structure on the finish suggests it will require considerable bottle age. Cellar this for a couple of decades, and you’ll be repaid handsomely’.

James Suckling gave it a barrel range of 95-96 points. In his tasting note, he said ‘Wow. This is incredibly structured and powerful with ultra-fine tannins that are tight and layered’. However, he added that the wine ‘will need so much time’.

Jean-Marc Quarin awarded it 96 points. He noted that it was ‘soft on the palate, meticulous in its texture, very aromatic, with class in the touch, the wine develops ascending and juicy between the middle and the finish’.
