Château L’Evangile 2022 released En Primeur

  • Château L’Evangile 2022 has been released for £2,676 per 12×75.  
  • ‘A lovely, discrete Pomerol’ said Neal Martin, who rated it 95-97 points.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château L’Evangile 2022 has been released at €216 per bottle ex-négociant, up 20.0% on the 2021 release (€180).  

It is being offered by the international trade for £2,676 per 12×75, a 20.5% increase on the 2021’s opening price (£2,220 a case).  

At this price, the new release is coming at a premium to other vintages on the market. The lower-scoring 2014 and 2020 vintages look better value in relation to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.  

Critics’ scores  

Neal Martin (Vinous) gave the wine a score of 95-97 points and mentioned in his tasting notes that the wine ‘is a lovely, discrete Pomerol from an estate moving in the right direction – fast’. 

James Suckling awarded the wine a barrel range of 96-97 points, adding that it will be ‘exciting to see how this tensioned beauty will evolve’. 

Jane Anson scored it 95 points, remarking on the wine’s ‘intensity and spice’ that provide ‘density combined with elegance’.  

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) awarded this year’s release a range of 95-97 point, celebrating a ‘seamless and polished’ profile with a ‘bright core of fruit’.  

Fair Value analysis  

There is no significant correlation between L’Evangile Market Prices and Neal Martin scores – the chosen critic for Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value’ methodology

Based on the chart above, buyers looking for value in back vintages might want to consider the 2014 and 2020 vintages, which both received 95 points from Neal Martin (Vinous). The 2014 vintage is available at a Market Price of £1,332 per 12×75, slightly less than half the price of the 2022. Alternatively, the 2020 vintage offers a discount of 23.8% compared to today’s release.
