As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château L’Eglise-Clinet 2022 has been released at €260 per bottle ex-négociant, up 23.8% on the 2021 release (€210).

It is being offered by the international trade for £3,108 per 12×75, a 24.3% increase on the 2021’s opening price (£2,500 a case).

For those lucky enough to secure an allocation, today’s release offers fair value. Buyers might also be interested in several back vintages, including the 2020 and 2016. See more pricing analysis below.

Critics’ scores

Critics have been quite impressed with this year’s L’Eglise-Clinet.

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded it a barrel range of 98-100 points, praising its ‘breathtaking focus’ and the ‘long, intense and paradoxically tender finish’. He writes that it is a’ wine that may leave you spellbound’, constructed without ‘a hair out of place’.

Jeff Leve (Wine Cellar Insider) gave it a score of 98-100 points, praising the ‘sensuous finish’ which ‘sees the 60 second mark and keeps right on going’.

James Suckling scored the vintage at 97-98, also citing the ‘wonderfully long and fresh’ finish.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Independent) gave the wine 96-98 points, calling it ‘very seductive!’

Fair Value analysis

Using Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value’ methodology, prices for Château L’Eglise-Clinet are 72% correlated to Neal Martin scores.

Looking at the chart below, today’s release is coming to the market just below the regression line. For those who can secure an allocation, the 2022 offers fair value.

Buyers looking for other opportunities might want to consider the 2020 and 2016 vintages. Both have a Neal Martin (Vinous) score of 98 points and fall just below the Fair Value line. They are available at a discount of 17.0% and 12.2% respectively to today’s release.

The lower-scoring 2014, 2015 and 2018 vintages also fall below the line and are available at discounts of 60.4%, 32.3% and 32.3% respectively to the 2022.
