  • Château Haut-Bailly 2021 has been released at £1,152 per 12×75.
  • Neal Martin rated it 93-95 points.
  • The 2011, 2014 and 2019 vintages offer better value.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Haut-Bailly 2021 has been released at €96 per bottle ex-négociant, unchanged on the 2020’s opening price.

It is being offered by the international trade for £1,152 per 12×75. The 2014 and 2019 vintages look better value in relation to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.

Volumes being offered are down 60% on what they were last year due to the impact of the weather during the growing season.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) rated the wine 93-95 points and said it had ‘sappy black fruit and fine acidity’. A wine that ‘needs to be decanted then poured at the dinner table’, he concluded.

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) thought it the ‘Cabernet-driven modern day alter ego of the superb Merlot-dominant 1998’. He scored it 94-95+.

Jane Anson scored the wine 95-points and Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) awarded it a score of 92-94+.

Fair Value analysis

Today’s opening price comes at around a 40% premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s Fair Value methodology

Buyers looking for value might be interested in the similarly scored 2014 and 2011 vintages, which are available for less; both having a Market Price of around £600 per dozen.

The higher-scored 2019 also continues to offer fair value under £1,000 per case.

Other releases

The estate’s second label, Haut Bailly II, has also been released and is being offered for £318 per case (12×75).
