As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2021 has been released at €50.40 per bottle ex-négociant, the same as the 2020’s opening price.

Critics’ scores

The wine was rated 92-94 points by Neal Martin (Vinous), who said it was ‘unapologetically classic in style’ and followers of the estate would ‘love’ the return to ‘its quintessential style’.

Antonio Galloni (94-96 points) said he couldn’t ‘wait to taste it in bottle’.

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) scored it 92-94+ points and Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) 87-89 points.

Fair Value analysis

Today’s opening price comes at around a 25% premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s Fair Value methodology. Buyers looking for value might be interested in the similarly scored 2017, which is available for £460 per case, a 30% discount.

Buyers might also consider the better-rated 2018, 2014 and 2019 vintages which are also less expensive than the newly released 2021.
