Château Haut-Bages Libéral 2021 released En Primeur

  • Château Haut-Bages Libéral 2021 has been released at £324 per 12×75.
  • Neal Martin scored the wine 90-92 points.
  • The 2018-2020 vintages offer better value among recent vintages.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Haut-Bages Libéral 2021 has been released at €26.40 per bottle ex-négociant, unchanged on the 2020’s opening price.

It is being offered by the international trade for £324 per 12×75. Several recent back vintages look better value in relation to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.

The estate released 50% less stock to the market than it did last year.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) gave the 2021 vintage a score of 90-92. He said it was ‘curiously Margaux-like’ but ‘very fine’ even if it needed ‘a little more tension’.

Jane Anson (Bordeaux Insider) and William Kelley (Wine Advocate) were also closely aligned on scores, with Anson awarding 91-points and Kelley 91-93.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) was more upbeat, rating the wine 94-96 points and saying it was one his ‘early favourites on the Left Bank’.

Fair Value analysis

Despite releasing at the same price as last year’s release, buyers looking for value might consider the 2018, 2019 and 2020 vintages.

All three are available for around £300 per dozen at present, around 8% less than the 2021. The 2019 and 2020 also have stronger scores.
