Activity on the market this week has been focused on Leoville Barton 2016, named 2019 Wine Spectator wine of the year. The reasonably priced Bordeaux wine commanded 18% of the total case sales which contributed to an increase in the volume of trades this week by 12% but decreased value by 20%. The Rest of the World’s share rose due to trade in a couple large parcels from Spain (2.4%), Portugal (1.0%), and Australia (0.6%).
The Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 decreased 0.5% over last weeks close which can be attributed to the strengthening of Sterling in the same period.
The 100-point Petrus 1989 was described by Robert Parker as having “extraordinary equilibrium between all of its component parts” and an “anticipated maturity: 2010-2040.” Leaving plenty of time to acquire and enjoy a benchmark vintage.
