Conseillante 2018 released

Conseillante 2018 has been released at €162 per bottle ex-negociant, up 35% on the 2017 opening price of €120. It is being offered by the trade at £2,019 (US$2,736/ HK$20,016) per 12×75, an increase of 36.8% in sterling terms on the 2017 release of £1,476 per case.

Critical reception of today’s release has been positive. James Suckling scored the wine 97-98 points and argued that this “forceful red” had “clarity and beauty with so much transparency and focus”.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Advocate) gave it a slightly wider barrel range of 96-98+ and said that “it fills the mouth with elegant black fruit and earthy layers, framed by soft, velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and mineral laced”.

According to Antonio Galloni (Vinous), who awarded it 95-98 points, “the 2018 La Conseillante is magnificent”. In his tasting note, he further noted that “this is the first vintage that includes a touch of wine aged in amphora, just 3%. Don’t miss it!”

Moreover, the wine received a potential 100 points from both Jeb Dunnuck (97-100) and Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider, 98-100). Matthew Jukes also ranked it among his favourites with a score of 19.5 points.

Prices for Conseillante are 73% correlated to ‘Benchmark Critic’ scores. While the wine is coming to the market above all other recent vintages available, followers of Dunnuck and Leve will find value in today’s release.

Alternatively, the 2012 looks attractive with 96 points from Robert Parker and at less than half the price of the 2018.
