Montrose 2017

Montrose 2017 has been released at €96 per bottle ex-negociant, down 5.9% from the 2016 release (€102). It is being offered by the UK trade at £1,180 per 12×75, a decrease of 2.6% on the 2016 in sterling terms.

Overall, critics have been positive in their reviews of Montrose 2017. Neal Martin, who awarded a score of 94-96 point, noted that “there is already a palpable sense of energy in situ” but went on to say that the wine was “not as complex or as nuanced as the 2016 on the finish”. Lisa Perotti-Brown MW was more complimentary, praising this vintage as “one of the greatest Montrose’s I have tasted!” She scored the wine 96-99 points.

Once again astute Liv-ex members came close to predicting this year’s release price, choosing on average a price of €99.06, a miss of just 3.2%.

Today’s opening price comes at a slight premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s fair value methodology. Buyers perusing back vintages have a range of higher scored wines such as the 2014, a wine noted as one of the finest Left Bank wines of the vintage, or even the 2005 and 2016 vintages to consider as alternatives.

La Dame de Montrose 2017 has also been released today at €26.40, the same release price as last year.
