Leoville Barton 2017

Leoville Barton 2017 has been released at €52.80 per bottle ex-negociant, a 17% decrease on the 2016 opening price of €63.60. It is being offered by UK merchants for £654 per 12×75, down 12.1% in sterling terms on the 2016 release of £744 per case.

Critics have praised this year’s Leoville Barton as one of the best Left Bank wines of the vintage. Neal Martin, who awarded a score of 93-95 points, noted that “this is nudging the 2016 in terms of quality and there are just a handful of properties where I can state that this year.” His Vinous colleague, Antonio Galloni, thought that Leoville Barton 2017 was “one of the few truly exceptional Left Bank wines of the vintage”. He scored the wine 93-96 points.

Today’s opening price is delicately poised. It might offer value compared to the similarly scored 2015 and 2016 vintages. However, it looks overstretched compared to the 2014, which is available in the market at a 19.5% discount to today’s offering.
