Ducru Beaucaillou 2017

Ducru Beaucaillou 2017 has been released at €120 per bottle ex-negociant, the same price as the 2015 release and down 13.8% on the 2016 release (€139.20). It is being offered by the international trade at £1,488 per 12×75, a decrease of 12.7% on the 2016 release in sterling terms.

Critics have praised this year’s vintage. Neal Martin, who awarded the wine a score of 93-95 points, noted that “it is probably going to require more cellar age than many of its peers but it will be worth the wait.” Lisa Perotti Brown MW was more generous with her score, awarding the wine 95-97+ points, she commented that Ducru Beaucaillou 2017 “should age incredibly”.

Today’s release comes with a chunky premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s fair value methodology. It’s a hard sell given that both the higher scoring 2015 and 2014 vintages are available in the market for less. Of these two wines, the 95-point 2014 stands out as offering more value. It is available at a 27% discount to today’s release.
