By June 7, 2018Bordeaux 2017, Releases

Clos Fourtet 2017 has been released at €72 per bottle ex-negociant, a 13% decrease on the 2016 release price of €82.80. It is being offered by the international trade for £880 per case, down 12.9% in sterling terms on the 2016 release of £1,010 per 12×75.

Critical reception has been relatively positive. Neal Martin scored the wine 92-94 points noting that “there is impressive volume towards the finish that is uncommon in this vintage”. His colleague Antonio Galloni awarded a score of 92-95 points but speculated that he would not “be surprised if this is even better from the bottle.”

Today’s opening price carries a large premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s fair value methodology. Fans of Clos Fourtet could find more value in the 2012 vintage, which carries a higher score and is available at a 20% discount to today’s release.
