Antonio Galloni releases Bordeaux 2015 in-bottle scores

Yesterday evening UK time, Antonio Galloni released the report 2015 Bordeaux: Every bottle tells a story… which includes his in-bottle scores for the vintage.

In the report, Galloni notes that he was “impressed by how much freshness and structure the 2015s show today. Although 2015 is not an across the board success … the best wines are truly phenomenal”. He adds that “the finest 2015s are wonderfully sensual, exotic wines that should drink well relatively early and also reward aging”.

Galloni suggests that “it is tempting to compare 2015 with 2009 and 2010, the last two very high quality vintages in Bordeaux”. However, in his opinion, “the 2015s aren’t as flamboyant as the 2009s nor do they have the combination of elevated ripeness and structure of the 2010s, even if many 2015s do have alcohols that tip the scales in the 14.5% range.”

Galloni found perfection in two wines from the vintage: he scored both Canon and Vieux Chateau Certan 100-points.

Canon 2015 – Simply extraordinary in every way

In his tasting note, Galloni noted that “the 2015 Canon is a rare wine that is both hedonistic and intellectual”. Currently, James Suckling is the only other critic to award the wine 100 points, however, Neal Martin rated the wine highly in barrel, scoring it 98-100 points – his scores on Bordeaux 2015 will be published on the Wine Advocate later this week.

At En Primeur, Canon 2015 was ranked joint third favourite ‘value’ wine of the vintage by Liv-ex members.

Vieux Chateau Certan 2015 – A tremendous showing

Galloni’s other top-scoring wine was Vieux Chateau Certan 2015, which he described as being “every bit as magnificent from bottle as it was from barrel”.

Similar to Canon, the wine also received a perfect score from James Suckling and an impressive barrel range from Neal Martin (98-100).
