Lafon Rochet 2016 released: stands out

Lafon Rochet 2016

Lafon Rochet 2016 has been released at €33.6 per bottle ex-negociant, up 19.6% on the release price of the 2015. It is being offered by the international trade at £408 per 12×75. In sterling terms, this is 36% higher than the opening price for the 2015.

Critics have mostly scored the wine in the early 90s. Jane Anson, whose score of 95 was at the upper end, commented that it “stood out” on each of the three times that she tasted it, adding that, “all the success of St-Estephe in 2016 can be seen in Lafon-Rochet this year”. Neal Martin awarded it a lower 91-93 points and called it, “a very fine Lafon Rochet from Basile Tesseron and his team”.

With this price tag, interested buyers better agree: the wine is priced above all other recent vintages currently available in the market.

Wines from the already proven 2005, 2009 and 2010 vintages might look like attractive alternatives to this year’s release. Each of these are available at discounts to the 2016.
