Chasse Spleen 2016 released

Chasse Spleen 2016

Chasse Spleen 2016 has been released at €21 ex-negociant, up 9.4% on 2015 (€19.20). It is being offered by the trade at £258 per 12×75. In sterling terms, this is a 25.9% increase on last year’s release of £205.

This pitches the wine at around the same level as the 2009 and 2010, and above other recent vintages.

Despite this, followers of Neal Martin might be encouraged by its relatively high score of 92-94. The critic commented: “This is a fabulous Chasse-Spleen, the best I have ever tasted from the estate. It could end up at the top of by banded score.” The 2014 – available 24% below the 2016 – might also look attractive, as the chart above shows.

Although he awarded it a strong 92-93 and called it “another excellent, young Chasse-Spleen”, James Suckling’s score for the latest release is lower than last year’s. He described the 2015, which is priced 25% below 2016, as the “one of the best ever” from the estate, and awarded it 94-5.

It would appear that Chasse Spleen buyers have plenty to choose from.
