Smith Haut Lafitte 2015 joins the day’s releases

Smith Haut Lafitte 2015

Smith Haut Lafitte 2015 has been released at €60 per bottle ex-negociant, up 31.6% on the 2014 (€45.6). It is being offered by merchants at £625 per 12×75. This is 42% higher than last year’s release (£440).

The wine received consistently strong scores from critics. Neal Martin (95-97) noted: “It lingers very long and sensually in the mouth, completing a sophisticated and powerful Smith Haut-Lafitte that should age in splendid fashion.” Jancis Robinson (18/20) called it “an excitingly taut package that promises well.”

The vintage also comes with a special black label to celebrate the 650th anniversary of the Chateau and to mark 25 years of ownership by the Cathiard family.

But will this be enough to attract buyers? At £625 it is more expensive than the majority of the back vintages. The 2012, priced 24% below the 2015, might offer a tempting alternative.
