Phelan Segur 2015 released: feeling ambitious

Phelan Segur 2015 was released this morning at €28.80 per bottle ex-negociant, up 26.3% on the 2014 release price of €22.8. It is being offered by the international trade at £300 per 12×75. This is 33.3% above the 2014’s release price of £225.

The 2015 has received positive reviews from a number of critics. Neal Martin (91-93) named it as one of the highlights of Saint Estephe. He mused: “The bouquet is restrained, kept on a leash, but it trots along with crisp blackberry and raspberry fruit, interwoven with an attractive pencil lead note”. James Suckling (93-94) suggested it might be one of the best Phelans ever.

Although favourably scored in comparison to its older siblings, Phelan Segur 2015 is priced above the majority of the back vintages. Martin commented that it would be recommended from the appellation “if released at a sensible price”. With 2009 and 2010 available at discounts to today’s release, buyers might judge this not to be the case.
