Opus One 2012 was released today. It is being offered by merchants at £1,800 per 12×75, making it cheaper than all recent vintages previous to the 2011. It also has a higher critic score, achieving 97 points from James Suckling who observed: “Tight and compacted tannins with beautiful fruit and great length. Goes on for minutes. One of the best Opus' in years.”

Antonio Galloni appears to agree: he awarded it 96 points, calling it “rich, powerful and seductive”.

Recent Opus One vintages – with the exception of the 2011 which has not yet gained momentum – have all appreciated in value since entering the secondary market. Could the 2012 be another one to watch?
