Parker’s final word on 2007

With 2009 dominating attention, Parker’s finalised 2007 scores have largely been overlooked.  The revised scores were released along with those of the 2009s and are a reflection of what was – on the whole – an unexceptional vintage. A grey, drizzly summer provided less-than ideal growing conditions, though fortunately excellent autumn weather averted disaster and resulted in some good-quality wines. Parker describes the top offerings as “medium-bodied with silky tannins, low acidity, and round, charming personalities. While they are not dense, powerful, or concentrated, the finest are elegant, flattering, seductive wines that can be drunk immediately.”

Despite mediocre reviews, the wines were clearly overpriced and haven’t seen any real price appreciation since their release (with the exception of Lafite of course). In euro terms, many have significantly declined in price. (Are they now starting to look good value?) Parker writes: “The Bordelais have suffered the consequences of their decision over the last few years. The irony is that they priced the 2007s too high, and the far superior 2008s too low. However, that’s life in the Bordeaux wine market.”

Will a successful 09 campaign boost the ailing 07s?

Below is a table showing Parker’s final scores for all wines that scored above 92 points, and selected others.
