Critics’ scores

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) scored the wine 93 points, saying it ‘is a very pretty wine in [a] highly challenging vintage’. He did note that that he expects the 2011 ‘to be a relatively early maturing Vintage and would not push [his] luck on aging.’

Decanter also gave the wine 93 points, saying ‘the fruit is more tilted to greengage and lime than sunnier yellow or orange tones’ and that it is ‘intriguing in its subtle creaminess’.

JebDunnuck.com said that the wine ‘is not your average Champagne’, describing the ‘aromas of orange blossoms, custard, fresh pear, hazelnut and delicate smoky incense’ and awarded the wine 97 points.

Fair Value analysis

The 2011 vintage is coming to the market above the 2004 and 2006 vintages.

At this price, buyers looking for value may want to consider the 2004 or 2006 vintages, both of which were scored 97 points by Antonio Galloni.

Fans of Galloni may be interested in the 1996. Although it has the highest market price of recent vintages, currently £5,200 per 12×75, it is Galloni’s highest scoring with 98 points.

In terms of price performance, all of the last ten vintages of Krug are down year-on-year. The 1998 and 2008 recorded the steepest falls, down by 21.4% and 27.7% respectively, while the 1990 fared relatively better, down just 1.2% in the last 12 months.
