As part of La Place de Bordeaux’s Autumn Releases campaign, Seña 2021 has been released at €90 per bottle ex-négociant, up 5.9% on the 2020’s release price (€85 per bottle)

The wine is being offered internationally for £1,344 per 12×75 (€1,560 / HKD 13,800 / CHF 1,500 / $1,750), up 30.6% on the previous vintage’s opening price.

At this price, the new release is the most expensive of the last ten vintages of Seña. Given its high price point, the 2020, 2019, and 2018 vintages seem more attractive. See more pricing analysis below.

Critical response

The Wine Advocate’s Luis Gutiérrez awarded the wine a score of 98+ points, calling it ‘one of the finest vintages of the iconic Seña wine’.

Jane Anson awarded the wine 95 points, noting the ‘unobtrusive tannins that build slowly but surely’ and adding that the wine ‘needs some time in the bottle before drinking’.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) also scored today’s release 95 points. She said that ‘the medium-bodied palate is charged with energetic black fruits, with loads of savory accents and ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and refreshing’.

Fair value analysis

Several recent vintages, such as the 2020, 2019, and 2018, were also scored 98 points from The Wine Advocate and are currently available at more appealing price points.

The 2020 vintage is currently priced at £826 per case, a 38.5% discount on today’s release. The 2019 and 2018 are available at a Market Price of £780 and £884 per case respectively, 42.0% and 34.2% below the 2021.

Other releases

Last year saw the first release of Seña’s second wine, Rocas de Seña.

Today the 2021 vintage has also been released at €38 per bottle ex-négociant, up 8.6% from the previous year’s release (€35 per bottle). The wine is being offered internationally for £582 per case (12×75), an increase of 36.6% from last year’s release (£426 per case).

Rocas de Seña 2021 received a score of 94 points from Luis Gutiérrez (The Wine Advocate) who notes that this vintage ‘is less opulent and with more tension and floral aromas (but with power too) than the 2020’.
