The wine has fallen in value since 2012, and now commands a Market Price of £4,750 per 12×75. It has already traded today at £4,140 per case, lower than both its Market Price and re-release price.

Critical response

Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate) scored the wine 93-95 points back in 2012, calling it ‘one of the vintage’s most compelling wines’. He further added that ‘it possesses a dense ruby/purple color as well as a sweet, open-knit personality with ripe tannin, superb intensity, good purity and harmony, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and lots of crushed rock, floral and black as well as blue fruit notes in addition to hints of ink and forest floor’.

Neal Martin (Vinous) tasted the wine blind in 2021 at the Ten-Years-On tasting and awarded it 95 points. He noted that ‘the 2011 Latour is well-defined on the nose with blackberry, bilberry, cedar, hoisin and a touch of mint.’ He added that ‘there is a solid backbone to this wine, plenty of freshness, quite powerful towards the finish with superb persistence’.

Jancis Robinson also tasted the wine blind in 2021 and awarded it 18+ points.

Fair Value analysis

Château Latour Market Prices have an 87.6% correlation to Wine Advocate scores. At today’s release price of £5,544 per case, the 2011 vintage sits above the Fair Value line.

As an alternative, buyers might wish to consider the higher-scoring 2012 and 2014 vintages, which have a current Market Price of £4,548 and £4,640 per dozen respectively.
