Last year, La Gaffelière made headlines when it announced that it would be withdrawing from the St-Émilion classification. In its second vintage outside the classification, Liv-ex members ranked La Gaffelière among the top ten best-value wines of the vintage in this year’s En Primeur Survey.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel range of 95-97 points, saying that the 2022 La Gaffelière ‘continues this Saint-Émilion’s strong run of form in recent years’.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) gave it an even more generous barrel range of 98-100 points, praising the ‘drop-dead gorgeous’ wine and its ‘refined, sculpted and wonderfully precise’ character. He concluded that it is ‘simply breathtaking’.

Jane Anson (Inside Bordeaux) scored it a 96, highlighting the ‘mouthwateringly sappy tannins’ in a wine that manages to be ‘juicy and approachable’ as well as ‘muscular and stacked’.

Fair Value analysis
