  • Château Pontet-Canet 2021 has been released at £890 per 12×75.
  • Neal Martin scored the wine 91-93 points.
  • Several back vintages look as though they might offer better value.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Pontet-Canet 2021 has been released at €74.40 per bottle ex-négociant, unchanged on the 2020’s opening price.  It is being offered by the international trade for £890 per 12×75. The 2014, 2015 and 2020 vintages look better value in relation to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) scored the wine 91-93 points, saying it had ‘the substance to mature in bottle’ but would ‘drink earlier than other vintages’.

Fellow Vinous critic Antonio Galloni was more generous, rating it 93-95 points and noting it was ‘impressive all three times I tasted it’.

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) gave it 91-93 points, while Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) rated it 93-95 points.

Fair Value analysis

Buyers looking for value might consider the 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2020 vintages which all have the same (2014) or better scores (2015, 2017 and 2020) than the 2021 and are cheaper.

The 2020 in particular looks attractive. It picked up a score of 94-96 points from Martin last year and has a current Market Price of £860 per case.
