Critical opinion

Neal Martin awarded the 2020 Pichon Baron a barrel range of 95-97 points. He said the wine, “reveals enticing blackberries, blueberries and hints of balsamic and undergrowth, all very precise; crushed rock scents surface with aeration.”

Antonio Galloni said, “this is hands down one of the most impressive wines of 2020” and awarded 96-98 points.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW awarded it 95-97+ and Jeff Leve gave an initial 97-99 point range.

Fair Value

Based on Benchmark critic scores, the 2015 and 2019 vintage stand out as the highest scored vintages but are available at a discount to multiple back vintages and today’s release.

Those looking for a wine with more bottle age may look towards the 2008 vintage. Scored just a point shy of 2009 and 2010, the 2008 vintage is available at a discount of almost 12% to the 2020 release.

Les Griffons de Pichon Baron 2020 also released, at £346 per 12×75, identical to the 2018 release price, but up 18% on the 2018’s current Market Price.
