LIVE opportunities: the top-traded regions outside of Bordeaux during EP

End of primeurs

En Primeur is all but wrapped up. The campaign was lengthy and while release prices in the first four weeks averaged a 5.3% increase from 2019, the last two weeks of the campaign saw increases of 20%-90%.

This placed Bordeaux firmly in the spotlight across June and its trade share showed this.

Bordeaux trade by value constituted 47.8% of all trade across June, well above its annual share (39.4%), but not as large as a margin as observed in previous years.

If you’re like us, you’re wondering, what the remaining 52.2% of trade was for?

Non-Bordeaux trade

Burgundy and Italy led non-Bordeaux trade by value through June, both with an equal share of 32%.

In June, three of the top five most traded wines by value were Italian – two vintages of Sassicaia, 2018 and 2017, and Soldera Case Basse’s Toscana 100% Sangiovese 2016.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s Romanée-Conti 2006 and Cristal 2012 wrapped up the top five.

The greatest level of demand for non-Bordeaux wines came from the United States, followed by the UK, Asia, and Europe, in that order.
