The international trade is offering the wine for £600 per case, up 4% versus the 2019’s current market price.
There are several immediate back vintages that would appear to offer better value than today’s release. See more Fair Value analysis below.
The estate’s second wine, Chevalier de Lascombes, was also released for €20.40 per bottle ex-négociant.
Critical opinion
The wine has received a wide range of scores. At one end, Neal Martin (Vinous) rated it 88-90. He said it had a “straightforward” bouquet and found that even after an hour it, “remains a little austere”.
At the other end, James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com) gave it a score of 94-95, who said it was “structured. Solid.”
Both Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (Wine Advocate) and Antonio Galloni, meanwhile, rated the wine 92-94, the latter calling it, “an attractive, mid-weight Lascombes”. Jane Anson (Decanter) gave it 92-points saying there was “charm” but also heaviness on the mid-palate which emphasised more bitter characters.
Fair value
The 2020 does not look the most compelling release when compared against available back vintages using the Fair Value methodology. The 2017, 2018 and 2019 vintages were all scored higher and are available for discounts – the 2017 costs 23% less, the 2018 13%.
The 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015 likewise are all better scored and have lower prices. The 2011 in particular at 10 years old has a score of 93 and a Market Price of £562 looks more compelling.
