2020 En Primeur report

Liv-ex published its annual Bordeaux En Primeur Report last week. The report is available for members to read on the website or to download and print.

Key features of the report include:

  • A detailed assessment of the 2020 vintage and why initial indications suggest there is potential for high quality-wines but also a great deal of heterogeneity.
  • A recap of last year’s campaign and what it means for the 2020 release; as well as the impact stock retention and this year’s frosts might have on release strategies.
  • An in-depth look at the current market for Bordeaux wines against which backdrop the coming campaign will unfurl.

Early Critical Assessments

“After tasting more than 400 barrel samples from the 2020 vintage, I can 100% confirm that it is another great year for Bordeaux”, said James Suckling in his latest Bordeaux 2020 update.

Both James Suckling and Jean-Marc Quarin have been posting initial Bordeaux 2020 tastings throughout the month of April. Only one wine so far has been scored with an upper range of 100 and that is Château Margaux 2020 (99-100) from James Suckling.

Jean Marc-Quarin fills the next two spots in the ranked table anove, awarding 98 to both Château Palmer and Château Lafite Rothschild.

James Suckling has given both Château Croix de Labrie and Château Le Gay 98-99 and scored a further eight wines with a bracket of 97-98.
