Gaja Barberesco 2017 has been released in the UK at £1590 per 12×75, slightly lower than the 2016 opening of £1600 per case however 8.9% higher than the 2016’s current market price (£1460).

This is the first 2017 Barbaresco release of 2020 and Antonio Galloni described it as a “gorgeous example of the year”.

Furthermore, Galloni, in his Barbaresco 2016 and 2017 report, recounted that “the shocks of 2017 were very hard, if not impossible to overcome”, in reference to the hail, heat, and frost the region suffered during the growing season. He added that “there will be some fine 2017 Barbarescos, but not many”.

Gaja Barbaresco 2017 seems to have been one of the few, awarded a barrel range of 92-94. He described the wine as “sweet, perfumed and light on its feet […] with terrific freshness and the slightly nervous edge that runs through all these wines”.

The wine comes to market above a number of recent vintages. The newest release carries an equivalent score to 2008, 2009 and 2010 although available at a discount to the former two and a premium to the later. Buyers may also consider 2013 and 2014, the highest scored vintages by Galloni, while also remaining some of the least expensive options.
