Leoville Poyferre 2019 released

Leoville Poyferre 2019 was released at €49.20 per bottle ex-negociant, down 25.4% on the 2018 release (€66). The wine is coming to market with a recommended retail price of £616 per 12×75, down 24.5% on the 2018 (£816).

James Suckling awarded the wine a barrel range of 96-97 points. In his tasting note, he said it was “chewy and rich this year with lots of ripe tannins and solid depth of fruit”.

Jean-Marc Quarin also scored the wine favourably, awarding it 96 points.

As the chart above shows, prices for Leoville Poyferre are 75% correlated to scores. Based on today’s release price of £616, a score of 94 points would place today’s release at ‘Fair Value’. Indeed, with scores of 96 from both James Suckling and Jean-Marc Quarin, today’s release looks encouraging.

Buyers looking for other options may also want to consider the 2015 and 2014 vintages which are available at a slight discount.
