Pavillon Rouge 2018 released

Pavillon Rouge 2018 has been released at €144 per bottle ex-negociant, up 9.1% on the 2017’s opening price of €132. It is being offered by the international trade at £1,790 (US$2,340/HK$17,820) per 12×75, up 10.5% on the 2017’s release of £1,620 per case.

This year’s offering has met with effusive critical praise. According to Antonio Galloni (Vinous, 91-94), “the 2018 Pavillon Rouge is absolutely gorgeous”.

James Suckling  (95-96) also liked its “fantastic depth of ripe fruit with currant and dark-berry aromas” and “velvety tannins that are melted into the wine”. For Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Advocate), who gave it 93-95 points, the wine “sings of crushed black and red currents” and has “a solid backbone of fine-grained tannins”.

The wine is coming to the market at a similar level to other vintages of comparable quality such as the 2015 and 2009 – the latter offering bottle age. Buyers might also wish to consider the 2016 (NM 92) available at an 8.3% discount.

Pavillon Blanc 2018 was also released this morning and is being offered at £1,932 per 12×75.
