Figeac 2018 has been released at €174 per bottle ex-negociant, up 45% on the 2017 (€120). It is coming with a recommended retail price of £2,172 per 12×75, up 47% on the 2017 release (£1,476).

Critics have praised this year’s Figeac. Antonio Galloni (Vinous) awarded the wine 96-99 points. In his tasting note he said the wine was “a regal, soaring wine with tremendous vertical lift and nuance”. He added that “the 2018 Figeac is brilliant. That’s all there is to it”.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (Wine Advocate) scored the wine 97-99 points and added, “in my view, this is the finest Figeac ever produced”.

James Suckling said that “the real new style here of Figeac that harkens back to the great wines of the 1950s and the 1940s”. He gave a barrel range of 98-99 points.

James Molesworth (Wine Spectator) found potential perfection in this year’s Figeac and awarded it 97-100 points. In his tasting note he said, “the encore on the finish makes you realise this is the serious gourmet stuff” and added that it was “one of the highlights of the vintage”.

At this price, the 2018 is coming to market above all the other recent vintages currently available and buyers looking for other options have plenty to choose from.

The 2016, which was scored 100 points by Neal Martin, is available at a 12% discount. Alternatively, the 2015, which has a similar score to today’s release, also looks attractive.
