Belair Monange 2018 released

Belair Monange 2018 was released earlier today. The wine is being offered by the international trade at £1,400 per 12×75, up 18.6% on the 2017 release price of £1,180 per case.

James Suckling awarded the wine a barrel range of 98-99 points. In his tasting note, Suckling praised the “agile and vivid palate of pretty fruit and bright acidity, not to mention the ultra fine tannins, which deliver a seamless and limitless finish”.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Advocate) scored it a similar 97-99 points, and described it as “rich and decadently layered”. She added that the “densely packed layers are charged with energy, supported by firm, velvety tannins and a racy line of freshness, finishing very long and very spicy”.

At the same time, Antonio Galloni (Vinous) gave it a lower 93-96 range and commented that “in 2018, Belair-Monange is not exactly subtle, but it is quite delicious and full of allure”.

Prices for Belair Monange show strong correlation to ‘Benchmark Critic’ scores. Depending on the critic of choice, the wine either represents great value for money or appears slightly overpriced, as the chart above shows.

Alternatively, buyers might wish to consider the 2016 (NM 97, JS 99, LPB 97+) or the 2012 (RP 95+) which are currently available at discounts.
