By May 7, 2019Bordeaux 2018

Pavie Macquin 2018 has been released at €52.80 per bottle ex-negociant, up 2.3% on the 2017 release (€51.60). It is being offered by the international trade for £632 per 12×75, equal to the 2017 release.

Critical reception for this year’s Pavie Macquin has been positive. Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate) awarded the wine 95-97 points, adding that it has “seriously impressive structure”. Antonio Galloni (Vinous) said that it “possesses extraordinary richness and intensity”. He scored it a barrel range of 92-95 points.

James Suckling noted that it had an “extremely long finish” and awarded it 97-98 points. Jeb Dunnuck was also full of praise. He scored the wine a high 97-99 points and said that “it ages beautifully and I doubt you could have too much in the cellar”.

Prices for Pavie Macquin are 76% correlated to critic scores. Based on today’s release of £632, the 2018 is coming to the market both above and below the line implied by our ‘fair value’ methodology, depending on your critic of choice.

Buyers looking for other options may want to consider the 2016, which was awarded 95 points by Neal Martin back in January and is available at a small discount to today’s release.
