Lafon Rochet 2018 released – “a wine of lovely finesse”

Lafon Rochet 2018 was released this morning at €31.20 per bottle ex-negociant, up 4% on the 2017’s opening price (€30). It comes with a recommended merchant’s release price of £384 per 12×75, an increase of only 0.3% on the 2017’s release (£383).

For Antonio Galloni (Vinous), the 2018 “Lafon-Rochet is one of the more laid back, elegant wines of the appellation”. Having tasted it three times, Galloni said the wine “offers a striking combination of fruit density and nuance, all in an understated style that is quite appealing”. He scored it 92-95 points.

James Suckling also reviewed the wine, giving it 93-94 points, and praised its “beautiful, fresh finish”. Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Advocate) awarded it a barrel range of 90-92+ and described it as “firm and grainy with herb sparks and an earthy finish”.

With this price tag, today’s release stands above most other recent vintages currently available in the market. Buyers looking for value could therefore consider the 2014 and 2015 with 92 points from Neal Martin.
