Nicolas Catena Zapata 2015 released – ‘juicy and soft’

Nicolas Catena Zapata 2015 has been released at €39 ex-negociant. It is being offered by the international trade at £588 per 12×75.

This is the first year that the flagship wine has been sold through La Place de Bordeaux. In a press release, Managing Director Dr. Laura Catena commented that they share the same vision as La Place, namely ‘their respect for terroir and for the uniqueness of place’.

The Wine Advocate’s Luis Gutiérrez scored today’s release 93 points, describing it as a ‘very approachable’ red that still exhibits ‘Cabernet’s textbook tannins’. James Suckling scored it a higher 96 points.

Neal Martin (now Vinous) and Jay S Miller have rated previous vintages for the Wine Advocate. The 2015 is priced below most other vintages, albeit with a lower critic score, potentially making it attractive to buyers.

Only the 2008 costs less. It also has a strong score (98 points), and may, therefore, represent an interesting alternative for buyers.

Another Catena Zapata wine, the Adrianna Mundus Bacillus Terrae Malbec 2015, has also been released today by the international trade at £1,548 per 12×75.
