Pichon Baron 2017 released

By June 7, 2018Bordeaux 2017

Pichon Baron has been released at €96 per bottle ex-negociant, down 16% on the 2016 release of €114. It is being offered by the trade at £1,176 per 12×75, a decrease of 14% in sterling terms on the 2016 release of £1,375.

Neal Martin (Vinous) scored the wine 93-95 points. In his tasting note he said, “there is a lovely sweetness here, perhaps less austere than I was anticipating with a very long, quite spicy finish”. Jeb Dunnuck (JebDunnuck.com) commented that the wine “will compete with the best of the best in 2017” and awarded a slightly higher 94-97 points.

Today’s opening price carries a large premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s fair value methodology. Buyers looking for value might prefer the 2008 and 2015 vintages, which carry higher scores and are available at discounts to today’s release.
