Petit Village 2017

Petit Village 2017 has been released at €50.40 per bottle ex-negociant, down 7% on the 2016 release of €54. It is being offered at a recommended retail price of £612 per 12×75, a decrease of 6% in sterling terms on the 2016 release of £650 per case.

Neal Martin (Vinous) scored this year’s wine just 87-89 points and commented that, “this is a Pomerol cru that has left [him] feeling nonplussed in recent vintages and [he is] still seeking a version that reflects the terroir”. He added that “the vines did not suffer frost damage at all”. James Suckling was more generous and awarded 94-95 points. In his tasting note he described the wine as “very long and serious”.

Today’s release is entering the market above a number of recent vintages already available in the market. Buyers looking for value will have several other options. The 2009, 2010 and 2015 vintages, for example, are scored higher and priced lower.
