Talbot 2017 released

By May 16, 2018Bordeaux, Bordeaux 2017

Talbot 2017 has been released at €37.20 per bottle ex-negociant, down 11.4% on last year (€42). It is being offered by the international trade at £465 per 12×75, 7.3% lower than last year’s offer.

At this price, it enters the market at around the same level as the current prices of the last six vintages, but with a higher or equal score according to Neal Martin. The Vinous critic, who was more generous than most with his score, called it “relatively light but well-defined … a classic Talbot really, exactly what you would expect for the vintage.”

Antonio Galloni, however, described it as “a bit rough around the edges”, though he speculated that it might improve with age. He scored it 88-91.

Collectors might think hard about this release. On one hand, it is cheaper than many other Talbot vintages, particularly those over eight years old. On the other hand, the 2016, which is favoured by the majority of major critics, is available in the market at only a small premium.
