Rebecca Gibb MW publishes En Primeur report

By April 23, 2018Bordeaux 2017

On Friday, Rebecca Gibb MW published her report on the Bordeaux 2017 vintage. Gibb, who found 122 wines worthy of 90 points or above, called them, “bright, fragrant, fresh and approachable even at this early stage”.

Like other critics, she suggests that quality across the vintage is far from uniform. She comments: “All wines are not born equal and this was more apparent than in 2015 or 2016: there are plenty of hits but more misses in 2017.”

Gibb awarded her top pick, Pavillon Blanc, 98-100 points. This makes it the only wine to be awarded a potentially perfect score by any of the critics that we follow (so far, at least). She called it “full of complexity” and possibly the best sauvignon blanc that she has ever tasted.

Top-scoring reds include 97-point Ausone (“A delicate wine offering huge density of fragrant blackberry fruit) and La Mission Haut Brion (“dark and round but very elegant”).

A selection of Gibb’s top scores are shown below. You can download her full report for free at rebeccagibb.com.
