Last week, Julia Harding MW’s Bordeaux 2017 report and scores were published in a series of articles on JancisRobinson.com.
Harding commented that, “frost has been the story up to now, and will always be associated with 2017, as it was with 1991, but the difference is that good and excellent wines have been made”. She goes on to say: “Whether [the wines] will be offered at a ‘fair’ price remains to be seen”.
Harding ends her report with a quote from Olivier Bernard, President of the Union des Grand Crus de Bordeaux, to summarise the vintage. He commented that “the 2017 vintage reminds us somewhat brutally of the risks associated with viticulture”.
Harding’s highest score was 18.5 points, which she awarded to five wines. St-Emilion’s Figeac, was the only wine outside of Pomerol to achieve this score. In her tasting note, Harding described the wine as “silky, charming [and] mouth-watering”.
